Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is, “a state of full physical, mental and emotional well being and not just the absence of illness and disease.” Various definitions have also been used over the years for various purposes. It has become a popular term that encompasses a wide variety of ideas and concepts.
Many cultures around the world associate good health and well-being with religious concepts. Individuals who participate in spiritual activities or other spiritual beliefs are often encouraged to practice self-care to maintain good health. Religious organizations also provide support systems and resources for individuals who are struggling with illness or disease as well as providing ways to share positive messages about illness and death.
Health can be influenced by cultural norms, practices, and beliefs and can be affected by external environmental factors such as poverty, violence, emergencies, and disasters. The quality of life of an individual can decline because of these and other external factors over time. For example, many people who live in poverty experience significant changes in their health due to changes in their environment and their health and life course. Some of the examples of external factors that change health include unemployment, violence, emergencies, and natural disasters. These events can have dramatic effects on the health of an individual and this can cause health problems and challenges for older adults.
Self-concept and sense of well being is an important concept that influences health and wellness. Health and wellness is also related to understanding one’s body and mind. According to research, there are four components of healthy self-concept: internal recognition of one’s own health, interpersonal connections and experiences, managing internal stress, and adopting a balanced lifestyle. It defines health and wellness in the context of the four components of a person’s life. It can also be described as the sum of all the good aspects of a person’s life experience and can affect the quality of life.
Anxiety and depression are also included in the definition of Illness and can cause changes in health. However, there is a difference between depression and anxiety as they are two different illnesses. Anxiety can have negative and constructive aspects while depression is considered a disease.
Mental diseases are also included in the third definition of disease. A mental disease is any condition or disease that interfere with your thinking, behavior, memory, emotions, and behavior. According to the third definition, diseases include those that affect your behavior. While some behaviors may not be considered diseases, they may still be considered illnesses by the standards of the disease concept.
